MARCO BONI

Marco Boni served as Principal Conductor of the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra for eighteen years; in 2012, the members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra appointed him Honorary Conductor for life. With the CCO, he has undertaken numerous tours in Europe and the East with soloists such as Mischa Maisky, Maria João Pires and Janine Jansen – the latter making her debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, broadcast live on Dutch radio. The recordings of Beethoven’s Quartets Op. 95 and Schubert’s Death and the Maiden in Mahler’s orchestration received five stars from BBC Music Magazine, which described them as the best currently available.

At the age of twelve, Sergiu Celibidache handed him the baton in front of the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, with which Boni would collaborate on opera and symphonic productions over the following decades. His performance of Mahler’s Tenth Symphony was highly acclaimed by critics. His debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra
marked the start of a collaboration involving tours in Italy and Spain. In 1995, he conducted the Scottish Chamber Orchestra on an Italian tour with Giuliano Carmignola and made his debut with
the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. In 2016, he conducted the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, with further collaborations in subsequent seasons.

A solo cellist and co-founder of the Virtuosi Italiani in the 1980s, he conducted the world premiere recording of Nino Rota’s piano concertos for
Chandos. For Decca, he recorded Vivaldi’s *The Four Seasons* with the Filarmonici del Teatro Comunale di Bologna conducted by Riccardo Chailly; twenty years later, the same Philharmonic
invited him to re-record the same repertoire from the podium. He has collaborated with the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, the Santa Cecilia Chamber Orchestra, I Solisti della Scala, the Orchestra della Toscana, the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and I Solisti del Teatro Regio di Parma.

Since 2010, he has been a lecturer in Orchestral Conducting at the Accademia Internazionale di Imola. Regarded as the most prominent Italian conductor currently active in the field of chamber orchestra repertoire, Marco Boni boasts extensive international experience and continues to collaborate with numerous orchestras across Europe.
